As a Qualmark 4 star motel we are committed to the philosophy of offering an environmentally-sustainable service. We recognise that our guests are increasingly environmentally aware, have a high interest in natural environments and all things 'eco’, and expect very high quality standards.

In February 2010 we achieved the Qualmark Enviro Bronze award for reaching certain national standards in environmental and susatainability management within our business.

We have developed an environmental plan and welcome your support in what we believe will have a significant environmental impact in the way we carry out our business activities.   We also welcome your opinion and discussion regarding this plan.  Qualmark conducts annual assessments of our company’s environmental performance and we follow their guidelines.

Catelli’s’ of Taupo is committed to providing not only economically, but environmentally and socially sustainable Tourism recognising our responsibility to sustain our environment, and to limit any long term damage to Lake Taupo and the surrounding area.

We are currently reviewing our energy efficiency, waste water management, water conservation, chemicals and hazardous substance, and are working with our supply chain management to ensure our products are eco friendly.

To participate in our environment programme we encourage you to recycle all glass, plastic, aluminum and tin cans, and newspaper from your unit. Please place all recycles in the recycle bin in your kitchen. We also have a recycle bin behind the trellis near the garage. Turn off all lights and heaters when you leave your room.

We are currently replacing all light bulbs with eco-friendly bulbs where suitable and we encourage you to use cold water wash if you are using the laundry. We have a clothes line at the back of the motel.  We are using biodegradable bags for the bathrooms and kitchen bins.

Partly used toiletries are donated to Woman’s Refuge. We support the Salvation Army by recycling all our old bedding, linen and kitchen equipment. We have established community links with Taupo’s Parent’s centre, we sponsor their Wedding Expo, support Taupo Yacht Club advertising and we recycle egg cartons, equipment to the local Kohanga reo/Kindergarten.

We thank you for your support as we begin to deliver our sustainability programme. Our journey has just begun and our aim is to protect the environment for future generations.
