Wendy and Denis O’Callaghan moved to Taupo in 2006 to be closer to their grand-daughters, and to take over Catellis Motel and Conference Centre.
Being not too far from retirement age they somewhat naively thought they would be entering semi-retirement. Instead they have spent a huge amount of time and effort over the last few years improving the facilities and décor of the motel to bring it up to their own personal standards.
They have previously owned a rest-home so are used to providing all the little extras that people require from time to time.
Wendy’s background is in nursing and she enjoys meeting new people and helping them make the most of their stay in Taupo. She is the Past-President of the Lake Taupo Accommodation Association and in her spare time enjoys painting and spending time with her grandchildren and other family and friends.
Denis’s background is in customer service & scheduling for New Zealand Steel for many years and he is often found at Catellis doing the behind-the-scenes jobs such as maintenance and the accounts. Wednesday afternoons you will never find him at the motel because he’ll be on the golf course.
Wendy and Denis are also supported by Pam and her hard working team of cleaners who maintain the rooms to such a high standard. If staying you are also likely to meet one of the three grand-daughters who live in Taupo, or any of five other grand-children who often stay.
